Goals by Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie lift USA to the top of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying table
The United States men's soccer team continued its dominance of the Concacaf Nations League -- and its regional rival -- with a 2-0 victory over Mexico on Friday night in Mexico City. Goals from Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie lifted the USA to the top of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying table.
The win was the USA's first against Mexico on Mexican soil since 2012. It also snapped a winless streak of six matches against Mexico.
Pulisic opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a left-footed shot from just inside the penalty area. McKennie added to the lead in the 85th minute with a header from close range.
The win was a major boost for the USA, which is now in a strong position to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The USA will face Jamaica in its next CONCACAF Nations League match on Tuesday.
